Marek Sobczyk (b. 1955 in Warsaw; lives and works in Warsaw)
Painter, theorist, designer. Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (1975-1980). Member of Gruppa (1983-1989), co-founder of Oj dobrze już magazine.
From 1989, he run the Art School project (until 2000 together with Jarosław Modzelewski).
Since 1990, he has pursued graphic design and typography.(Between 1990 and 2004 he run together with P. Młodożeniec graphic design studio Zafryki).
Author of the conception of a seminal book on Andrzej Wróblewski (Andrzej Wróblewski nieznany, 1993). He published The Course of Abstraction (1996), The Course of Sublimation (2006) and Wislawa. Criteria of Venal Manifestation. Homework Assignments. (2013) [with M. Falkowski].
He is currently working on another series of lectures on The Course of Psycho/Soma/Socio-Analysis. In recent years, he has focused on actions 'positioning' artistic activities (Art Comes First).
His ongoing projects also include: Sexreligionpolitics (from 1999); Chart What? Who? - With What? With Who? (from 2000) [with J. Modzelewski]; "Museum" in Quotation Marks (from 2002); Founding the New Social Movement as a Work of Art (from 2004); Psycho/Soma/Socio-Analysis (Course of Psycho/Soma/Socio-Analysis) (from 2006); Monuments to Discourses (from 2008); Project Wisława (from 2009) [with M. Falkowski].
